Plus Size-Or Normal Size?

I will admit that I am an avid America's Next Top Model viewer, and I have no idea what makes this show so addicting, especially when most of the women are twigs. Anyway, while watching last season's show, I became attached to Whitney Thompson-she was the most naturally beautiful one, she had great personality, and her photos were fabulous. I immediately found myself crossing my fingers for her to get the win. Whitney did go on to win Next Top Model for that season, but the reason it made so many headlines is because she is the first "full-figure/plus size woman" to ever win ANTM. You can see on this page a photo of Whitney and she looks anything but "plus size." Given, they may have airbrushed and edited the bejesus out of her pic, but she is gorgeous without all of that. So many teens have written to her thanking her for her courage to stand up against the media's standards of beauty. I look up to Whitney for this too, and she should be seen as a beautiful woman...not a beautiful plus size woman. Bodies come in all different shapes and sizes, that is just what is natural. Each shape is beautiful, and maybe we need someone like Whitney to remind us 0f that. http://www.nypost.com/seven/05152008/tv/a_plus_model_110903.htm

I watched almost episode that season, and I loved Whitney too. I was so pissed when they kept referring to her as a plus-size or full-figured model. Heaven forbid she have 36 inch hips!! She definitely has natural beauty and pushing her into an "abnormal" category is an insult. She was the most "normal" looking out of all of them. Fortunately, ANTM is getting better with diversifying their cast (having Isis, a transgendered female, on the show this season), but the modeling industry as a whole has a ways to go.

LOL. SHE'S plus-sized? Haha. That's ridiculous. The whole modeling thing just pisses me off. I'm glad she won, but jeez, did she really need to win under the title "plus size"?

My sister, mom and I watched the entire season. We watch all of them actually and I also don't know what makes it so addicting. My sister actually started crying she was so happy she won. We were so pumped that a "plus" model won. The one thing that actually bothers me though is that she is considered a plus models. I think we need the majority of models to look like her.

I'll admit i love that show too! i watched this season and i think most everyone was rooting for her. Finally a women who is comfortable in her own skin that isn't a twig, which is rare but awesome. I mean Tyra is even great. Yeah she used to be a twig herself but i think shes trying to change the model industry with her not being a twig anymore and has a huge supportive audience backing her up.

Totally agree! I love ANTM actually, despite how they complain and are annoying half the time. I watched that season as well...and thought it was amazing that she won. The sad part is, maybe compared to the 80 lbs. girls she is "plus size", but from what I saw she was anything but. It is pretty pathetic how topsy-turvy our society is in terms of weight. Gets scarier with every magazine that comes out. Whitney was fabulous and I can definitely see her being a huge inspiration to other girls across America. That is way cool.
